Description

This course provides a working foundation to program applications using eXtensible Markup Language (XML).

Audience

This course is designed for information technology individuals, including enterprise application architects, designers, developers, and content modelers and creators.

Prerequisites

XM30: Introduction to XML and Related Technologies or equivalent experience. Working knowledge of development using the Java language. Some experience with a Java Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and using DB2 or other relational databases is helpful, but is not necessary.

Objectives

After completing XM321, students will be able to:
- Navigate and develop Java and XML-based applications using IBM's WebSphere Application Developer product
- Describe the role of parsers in XML-based applications
- Develop Java-based XML applications utilizing the Simple API for XML (SAX)
- Develop Java-based XML applications utilizing the Document Object Model (DOM) API
- Develop programs that create XML documents from Java objects
- Develop programs that use XML Stylesheet Language (XSL) transformations to convert XML source documents to different formats
- Describe the underlying architecture of XML application development
- Develop applications that extract information from a DB2 relational database and convert it into an XML structure
