iSeries Performance Analysis and Capacity Planning (OL95) |
Format |
Classroom |
Duration |
4.0 Day(s) |
Description |
This classroom course describes how to use the AS/400 performance monitor to gather performance data. You will learn how to use the IBM Performance Tools/400 reports, displays, and graphics to analyze system performance, and the capacity planner to estimate resource utilization and manage system growth. This course is written at the V4R3 level. |
Audience |
People responsible for performance analysis and capacity planning on AS/400 systems. Performance Tools/400 should be installed on at least one of your AS/400 systems. You do not have to have a RISC AS/400 to benefit from this course. |
Prerequisites |
Before taking this course, you should be able to:
- Use performance data from the WRKSYSSTS display to adjust pool sizes and activity levels in order to tune the system
- Recognize jobs with high resource utilization on the WRKACTJOB display
- Recognize major factors which could contribute to high faulting rates and resource conflicts
- List the major components of an AS/400 job
- Distinguish between active, long wait, and ineligible job states
- Describe the effect of run priority and timeslice on job performance.
This knowledge can be gained by attending Operating System/400 Structure, Tailoring, and Basic Tuning (S6023) or AS/400 Work Management and Basic Tuning (PS587). |
Objectives |
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Describe the relationship between resource utilization and response time
- Start and end the Performance Monitor and print Performance Tools/400 reports
- Use Performance Tools/400 reports, displays, and graphics to analyze system and job performance
- Use the AS/400 capacity planner, BEST/1 for the AS/400, to assess the impact of changes in workload on response time, throughput and configuration
- Use Performance Tools/400 to analyze the effects of implementing techniques to enhance performance. |
