Description

This course will provide an overview of TCP/IP networks and of the Internet and cover the appropriate terminology.

Prerequisites

Have a basic knowledge of computers and computer networks.

Objectives

- Introduction : discuss the Internet concept; identify the principal problems encountered when TCP/IP and networks are combined.
- The Internet and TCP/IP : summarize the history and organization of the Internet and TCP/IP.
- The Structure of TCP/IP: discuss the layered structure of TCP/IP.
- The Logical Network: mention the role of interfaces for the IP network layer and the TCP and UDP applications layers; identify the characteristics of an IP address: type, class and mask ; discuss the operating principles:of routing mechanisms, of physical to IP address conversion mechanisms, of name to IP address correspondence mechanisms; explain the role of the principal configuration servers.
- Standard Applications: explain the principle standard applications, i.e.: Telnet, X-Window, FTP and TFTP, SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4, MIME, LPR/LPD, NFS, Rexec, SNMP
- The Internet: discuss the principles of the Web, and JAVA and NNTP.
- Security: cite the protection principles used by Internet players to develop data interchange and electronic commerce.
- The Future: explain the rational for IPV6 and its principal innovations.
