Description |
The purpose of this course is to enable the students to install, customize and administer the AIX operating system Version 4 in a multiuser environment using RS/6000s. |
Audience |
Anyone responsible for system administrative duties of implementing and managing the AIX Version 4 operating system on an IBM RS/6000. |
Prerequisites |
Login to an RS/6000 system and set a user password
o Execute basic AIX commands
o Manage files and directories
o Use the vi editor
o Use redirection, pipes, and tees
o Use the utilities find and grep
o Use command and variable substitution
o Set and change Korn shell variables
o Write simple shell scripts |
Objectives |
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
o Install the AIX Version 4 operating system, software bundles, and filesets
o Perform system startup and shutdown
o Understand and use the system management tools
o Configure terminal and printer devices
o Manage physical and logical devices
o Perform file system management
o Create and manage user and group accounts
o Perform and restore system backups
o Utilize administrative subsystems, including cron to schedule system tasks, and security to implement customized access of files and directories
o Describe basic networking concepts
o Describe software licensing concepts |
